New April Demo & Some Changes Going Forward
Were releasing a new demo this April that provides some significant changes to the game, were trying some new things but were confident its going to provide a more focused experience going forward! First well get into the more larger updates then going into the smaller bugs we fixed
Player Select
When selecting your character you will no longer get to pick your weapon or special. Weapons are now delegated to a specific character.
They following characters have the following weapons:
- Bones: Mallet
- Marrow: Boomerang
- Spike: Flamethrower
We are hoping this provides a more simpler experience and later down the line we will be giving characters more of there own playstyles with unique abilities.
So what about specials? Are we still going to use them, well get into that right now!
Changes to Special and Energy
We've decided to get rid of the energy system and opt for you being able to pick up specials as a power from crates instead!
Crates will drop from the sky in predetermined locations in the game after a few seconds and will hold either the bomb special or the tornado special, attacking the crate will break it open and give you access to the special. Pressing attack will perform the special.
We saw many players didn't bother with specials as they quickly forgot they had it in a matter of seconds. Were hoping this new way of getting specials will allow players to consider getting them if they are in a pickle.
New way to Revive Players
In our previous versions of the game when a player died they become a ghost and had to be hit repeatedly by a teammate to be revived. This cause several collision errors when players were revived and often resulted in player confusion.
Now we have a new way to revive player that involves picking up that player, like you would with a Vermin's Treasure, and throwing them into the basket.
Replacing the Money System
We have decided to replace the money system in the game with a score displayed under you instead! In order to get more points to add to your score you will have to simply defeat enemies. Getting a combo of enemies can up the point reward! Try defeating 10 to get the max points possible.
Were still keeping the shop in the game so don't worry!
New Additions/Changes + Bug Fixes
- Tornado now sucks in enemies & items nearby to the player.
- The Bomb has a larger radius and now stuns.
- New animations for the Basket opening & closing.
- The Basket now displays the treasure you deposited inside the basket.
- Changed the main menu to no longer include player settings.
- The main menu now goes to the player select instead of the level select.
- Level select now allows you to pick your pallet.
- Level select now goes straight to the level.
- Players will automatically join the game once entering a level.
- Fixed several issues with Ferrous Ferret.
One Last Thing
We want to start posting more changes on our socials, were hoping we can do that this summer, we are to busy students doing our best to try to keep this game balanced in our schedule so sometimes its hard to want to even write things like this, we hope to make more posts soon! Expect more changes to the game soon as we try to hit up the Sonic Amateur Games Expo this year.
